French–Darija voicebot — proof of concept

Exploring mobile voice interaction in French and Darija, from speech recognition to conversational journeys.

Context

Context

Voice interaction is particularly demanding when users mix French and Darija, a spoken language with considerable variation. Understanding a command is not enough: the system must interpret intent, guide users and adapt mobile interfaces to dialogue sequences. The project explored these challenges through a proof of concept.

Digital Place intervention

Digital Place intervention

Digital Place carried out the PoC directly, working on voice interaction scenarios, the mobile user experience and speech recognition and processing components. Development included a mobile interface, command journeys and a web tool for collecting and organising audio samples used in experiments. The team integrated the components and conducted the functional tests needed to demonstrate the concept.

Architecture

Architecture

A mobile interface captures voice requests and interacts with a recognition and interpretation pipeline. Dialogue scenarios organise the next steps in the user journey; separate tooling supports the preparation of audio material used in the work.

Technologies : Speech-to-Text · audio processing.

Engineering decisions

Engineering decisions

  1. Treat language, dialogue and interface as a single problem.

The PoC’s value lies in assembling speech components and mobile journeys adapted to French–Darija use.
